Product Description
The Lonely Doll Makes New Friends continues Dare Wright’s classic series that began with publication of The Lonely Doll® in 1957. The new authors, Brook Ashley, Brett Wilbur and John Ogilvie, have photographed this latest Lonely Doll book in vibrant color. Edith and the Bears are the originals that Dare Wright used in her books. Edith’s friends are Lenci dolls from the 1920s and 30s. Edith is a doll who lives with her companions, Mr. Bear and Little Bear. Rejecting Little Bear’s offer to play baseball with her, Edith begs Mr. Bear to send her to a summer camp where she can learn how to become a refined young lady. Mr. Bear reluctantly agrees to let her go, but reminds Edith that it’s her behavior and being true to herself that will make her special, not what she wears or how hard she tries to impress the other girls. Edith learns the wisdom of Mr. Bear’s words, but only after a series of misadventures that bring her a new appreciation for Little Bear and the realization of what it really takes to make true friends.

I liked this book because it was styled like Dare Wright had done her Lonely Doll books. Edith, Mr. Bear and Little Bear are back to their adventures. The real Edith doll and bears from the Dare Wright books were used in the photos. The way the storyline went was similar to how Dare Wright created her books. I loved the color photos in this new book. In the original Dare Wright books, the photos where in black and white. Edith and the bears got a really nice update with color photos. It was a very good idea to bring Edith, Mr. Bear, and Little Bear out of retirement. Not only do older Lonely Doll fans get to see Edith and the Bears again but Edith and Bears get a whole new generation of friends in color as well. We all need to learn how to be good friends even when we meet new friends along the way!

Thank you Brook Ashley

As the only heir to the Dare Wright Lenci dolls and Bears, and a true life long friend of Dare Wright, Brook Ashley has the special insight needed to create such a charming and heartfelt book for today's children.
This colorful book teaches many lessons todays children need. The lessons of being yourself and not relying on what is on the outside to win friends are not only relevant to children but adults, as well. It teaches lesson's about trusting adults and getting along with others, such as an exuberant little bear.
I am reminded of the same lessons taught by Mr. Rogers and Big Bird. Brook Ashley is in this league! Well done.
Thank you Brook.

Loved the ability to have NEW stories about Edith & Little Bear.(Not just for children to love)
Wish it was in Blk & Wht though....like the first books.
The charm of seeing those wonderfully composed photos from Dare Write.
Wish they would re release the full series of books, so this new generation can enjoy!

The Lonely Doll Makes New Friends is a new book in the beloved series of childrens books from the 1950s by the late Dare Wright. The author,Brook Ashley, whose relationship to Dare was like a daughter, has lovingly created a new story, in the spirit of the old, using the original bears and Lenci doll from the 1950s. The main difference is that this new book has been photographed in beautiful color. There are many photographs of Edith, the two bears, and two other Lenci dolls, Edith's new girlfriends. In my opinion, this book would appeal both to a child and an adult Lonely Doll collector.
